Air Fryer Chicken and Shrimp Alfredo

One of our family's favorite go-to recipes is this Air Fryer Shrimp and Chicken Alfredo!  This recipe has just a little something for everyone, it's pure comfort food that just touches your soul! The Alfredo sauce is low-carb, so you can serve it over zoodles, spaghetti squash, or other low-carb pasta alternatives, if you wish.

This recipe requires a little multi-tasking, but it comes together in about a half hour: You can cook the pasta on the stove top, cook chicken and shrimp together in the air fryer, and make a quick homemade Alfredo sauce from scratch all at the same time! It's worth it, trust me!

Air fryer chicken and shrimp

Why is it always one or the other?? What if you want both? Well, in this recipe you can have both!

I season the chicken and shrimp with steak seasoning, which adds another dimension of flavor that pairs really well with creamy rich Alfredo sauce.

With a pound of chicken and a pound of shrimp, this turns out to be a meaty, protein-rich Alfredo dinner. Serve over whole wheat fettucine (or zoodles) and some steamed broccoli and you've got a pretty nutrient-rich meal!

Low-carb Alfredo

If you choose to forgo the pasta (can you tell that I watch the Bachelor??), you can have a great low-carb meal thanks to this low-carb Alfredo sauce! Many other recipes (as well as jarred Alfredo sauces) rely on flour or other starches to thicken the Alfredo sauce. This recipe is simply butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese (plus a few simple seasonings), so it is low-carb.

Keep in mind, this is definitely not a light Alfredo sauce. The heavy cream is deliciously rich and has plenty of fat! If you're looking for a lighter Alfredo recipe, try this skinny chicken Alfredo spaghetti squash bake!

Ingredients to make chicken and shrimp Alfredo

Ingredients

For the chicken and shrimp:

  • 1 lb chicken breast (about 2 small/medium breasts), thinly sliced and chopped about the same size as the shrimp
1 lb uncooked shrimp (thawed if frozen, cleaned, de-veined, peeled, tails removed)
  • 1-2 tablespoons steak seasoning - YES, steak seasoning for chicken and seafood! Or use garlic salt and black pepper

Tip: I sometimes like to make a double batch of air fryer chicken and shrimp and save it for the next day to make a spinach Caesar salad.

For the Alfredo sauce:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
2 cups heavy cream (aka whipped cream or double cream)
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese (freshly grated is best, but the packaged stuff will work OK too, if that's all you have)
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley or basil

For serving:

  • 1 lb uncooked pasta, such as fettucine (or use zucchini noodles)
  • salted water (for cooking the pasta)
  • broccoli florets (you'll boil this the last few minutes while cooking the pasta, or cook another veggie however you like)

How long with Alfredo sauce keep?

This Alfredo sauce can be stored in the fridge in a closed jar for up to 2 weeks. Just don't mix it with pasta, chicken, or shrimp if you plan on storing it for that long. Sauce that was already mixed with chicken, shrimp, or pasta can be stored in the fridge for about 2 days.

Recipe variations

  • Try adding a teaspoon or two of Italian seasoning to the Alfredo sauce. Yum!
  • Try adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the Alfredo sauce.
  • Want a lighter sauce? Substitute 1 cup of the heavy cream for half and half. The sauce will be a little thinner.
  • Don't want to use the air fryer? Cook the chicken and shrimp in a large skillet.

Multi-tasking tips

  • Prep EVERYTHING before you start cooking: chop up the chicken, make sure the shrimp is thawed, get the ingredients all measured out, etc.
  • Rely on timers! Set timers for when you need to add the broccoli to the boiling pasta, for when to drain the cooked pasta, and for reminders to stir the chicken and shrimp as they're cooking.
  • If it gets overwhelming, stop multi-tasking. You can absolutely work on each part of the recipe one at a time.
